6 pm: Lecture by Valerie Cassel Oliver. Valerie Cassel Oliver is senior curator at the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston. She has curated various solo and group shows, for example, Double Consciousness: Black Conceptual Art Since 1970 (2005), Black/Light/White Noise: Sound and Light in Contemporary Art (2007), and, with Dr. Andrea Barnwell Brownlee, Cinema Remixed and Reloaded: Black Women Artists and the Moving Image (2008/09). She was director of the Visiting Artist Program at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. In 2000 she co-curated the Biennial for the Whitney Museum of American Art. In 2011 she was awarded the David C. Driskell Prize of the High Museum of Art in Atlanta.

6 pm: Lecture by Franklin Sirmans. Franklin Sirmans is Terri and Michael Smooke Curator and Department Head of Contemporary Art at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. From 2006 to 2010, he was Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art of the Menil Collection in Houston, where he curated various exhibitions, including NeoHooDoo: Art for a Forgotten Faith. In 2007 Sirmans was awarded the David C. Driskell Prize by the High Museum of Art in Atlanta. He has published in The New York Times, Time Out New York, Essence, and Grand Street. In 2001 he and Lydia Yee curated the exhibition One Planet under a Groove.
